Common questions
What are verbs?
A verb is an action word. It tells what someone or something does.
How do I teach verbs?
Act it out. Call out a verb (hop, clap, wave) and children do it. If you can do it, it is a verb. Then find the verbs in a short story together.
What mistake should I watch for?
Picking the noun instead of the verb, as in "dog" in "The dog runs". Ask: what does the dog do? The answer is the verb.
What grade learns verbs?
Usually kindergarten and 1st grade. In the Common Core it is part of L.K.1b, L.1.1e.
