Common questions
What are correlative conjunctions?
Correlative conjunctions work in pairs to join two equal ideas: both ... and, either ... or, neither ... nor, not only ... but also.
How do I teach correlative conjunctions?
Teach the pairs as partners that always travel together. When children see either, they look for or; when they see neither, they look for nor.
What mistake should I watch for?
Mixing up the partners, as in "neither the cat or the dog." Neither always goes with nor, and either always goes with or.
What grade learns correlative conjunctions?
Usually 5th grade. In the Common Core it is part of L.5.1e.
