Lowercase a, step by step

  1. 1Start a little below the midline. Curve up, back over the top and down around to the baseline, like a c.
  2. 2Keep going up to close the circle at the midline.
  3. 3Slide straight down to the baseline and finish with a small swing up.

Capital A, step by step

  1. 1Start on the baseline and slant up to a point at the top line.
  2. 2Slide straight down to the baseline.
  3. 3Lift your pencil. Start at the bottom on the left, curl up into a loop across the middle and finish to the right.

Watch for: Closing the a at the bottom instead of the top, so it looks like a u. Close the circle at the midline before sliding down.

Joining: Lowercase a finishes on the baseline with a small swing up, and that swing carries straight on into the next letter.
