questions for kids

Three sets of 24 questions for morning meeting, brain breaks and car rides. Every set comes as printable A-or-B cards plus an opinion writing page, so a quick chat can turn into a paragraph.

Ways to use the cards

  1. Four corners. Read a card. Children who pick A go to one side of the room, B to the other. Ask two from each side why.
  2. Turn and talk. Partners share their choice and one reason, then swap.
  3. Opinion writing. Use the writing page to state a choice, give two reasons and finish strong.
  4. Class graph. Tally A and B votes and make a bar graph for a quick data lesson.

Common questions

Why use would you rather questions in class?

There is no wrong answer, so every child can take part. Choosing and explaining builds speaking and listening skills, and writing the reasons down is ready-made opinion writing practice: state a choice, give reasons, sum up.

How do I turn them into opinion writing?

Each pack ends with a writing page with four sentence starters: I would rather, because, another reason is, and that is why I would rather. Children pick a card, write its number and finish each sentence.

Which set should I use?

The set for kids is silly and short for kindergarten to 2nd grade, the school edition suits 1st to 3rd grade, and think deeper suits 3rd to 5th grade, where children are ready to weigh two good choices.

Can I copy the cards for my class?

Yes. The PDFs are free to print and photocopy for classroom and home use, in color or in the black-and-white ink saver. Please link to this page rather than re-uploading the files.
