Read what the video says
  1. 0:00 Let's practice even and odd numbers, step by step.
  2. 0:04 An even number can be made into pairs, with none left over. An odd number always has one left over. 6 is even, and 7 is odd.
  3. 0:14 Look at the ones digit. 55 ends in 5, so it's odd. 30 ends in 0, so it's even. 3 ends in 3, so it's odd.
  4. 0:24 Sort the numbers. 30 and 38 are even. 55 and 3 are odd.
  5. 0:31 Circle pairs of dots. There are 11 dots, and one is left over, so 11 is odd.
  6. 0:41 Word problems. 13 children want to work in pairs. Will every child have a partner? No. 13 is odd, so one child is left over.
  7. 0:52 Great job! Now print the free worksheet, and finish the rest on your own.

How to do it

An even number can be shared into two equal groups, or made into pairs with none left over. An odd number always has one left over. Look at the ones digit: 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 are even; 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 are odd.

Teaching tip

Line up counters in pairs, like children holding hands. If someone has no partner, the number is odd.
